Obtaining data on housing conditions

To order data on housing conditions, you need to complete the variable list for housing conditions (Excel, in Norwegian) and select the variables you want. The list must be attached to the application you send to Statistics Norway to obtain data.

The data on housing is retrieved from the register-based statistics on housing conditions and gives a picture of the situation at the start of the year (1 January). The register-based statistics on housing conditions only cover private households and persons who belong to these. Register-based housing conditions data provides information about the households and household members, as well as the characteristics of the dwelling. Statistics are released for the statistical year 2015.

Statistics Norway also publishes the statistics Housing conditions, survey on living conditions, which is based on sample surveys. Anonymous data from these surveys is available to researchers, and can be obtained by contacting the Norwegian Centre for Research Data. Data from the register-based statistics on housing conditions and the statistics based on sample surveys cannot be linked.

Other register data on households and dwellings

The statistical basis for newly created register-based statistics on housing conditions has been established on the basis of a Statistics Norway project to coordinate data on persons, households and dwellings in Norway. This is a further development of the harmonised statistics on households and dwellings that were established in connection with the Population and housing census 2011, but the results are not fully comparable.

Data is mainly based on the same sources used in statistics on families and households, statistics on dwellings, as well as income and wealth statistics for households. For further information, see About the statistics for Housing conditions, register-based.
