  • About the survey

In June 2019 Statistics Norway conducts a web survey on living conditions. The survey is a pilot survey, and it is the first time the living conditions survey is conducted on the Internet. We ask 6 000 persons aged 16 years and over to answer the survey. Participants are randomly selected from the National Registry.

How do you answer?

You will receive an email or SMS from us if you are selected to answer the survey. To answer the survey, you must log in to Altinn. In your inbox in Altinn, you will find a letter from us with information about the survey and a survey link.

About 1500 people in the sample have also been drawn to conduct a brief initial telephone interview. If you are selected, you will be notified in an email or SMS. One of our interviewers will then call you to conduct the short interview in Norwegian. You may also call us at 62 88 56 08 or send an email to svar@ssb.no to make an appointment.

The survey takes approximately 20-25 minutes to answer, but this will vary from person to person. You can only answer the survey in Norwegian.

What information do we need?

The survey has question on the following topics:

  • Housing, housing expenses and Mortgages
  • Household Finances
  • Work and employment

Your answers are valuable

Participation in this survey is voluntary. However, if the full quota of respondents does not participate, this will impact on the quality of the results. We are not able to interview everyone living in Norway. Hence, we have randomly selected a group of people that represents the population. We cannot replace you with someone else, and we therefore ask that you participate.

What is the purpose of the survey?

Your answers will help us to show an image of how people in Norway are living. Results from this survey will be used to establish new and better statistics about living conditions, so that living conditions in the European countries can be compared

This survey is a part of the European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC). The statistics enable us to compare living conditions in various European countries. The EU’s statistics office, Eurostat, publishes results from EU-SILC, and these are accessible to everyone. For comparisons of living conditions in Norway with other European countries, click here.

Your information is protected by the General Data Protection Regulation

  •  Everyone working in Statistics Norway will treat your information confidentially.
  •  You can tell Statistics Norway to delete your answers at any time.
  • The survey is carried out in accordance with the Statistics Act and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). If you have further questions about GDPR, you can visit our site www.ssb.no/en/omssb/personvern, or send us an e-mail at personvernombud@ssb.no
  • All data will be anonymised within two years after completion of the data Collection.
