The data from the survey is used as the basis for calculating the development in rents in the Consumer price index (CPI). The CPI shows the price development of different goods and services in Norway and is published every month.

The survey covers a sample of 2 500 dwellings, and is the same sample used in Statistics Norway’s Rental market survey. Each dwelling is included in the Rent survey for twelve months. The dwellings selected receive email and text message from Statistics Norway.

Occasionally we will contact owners or agents to get information about the rental dwelling. Owners and agents can only participate on web.

How do I respond?

You participate by filling out a form on the internet. It only takes a few minutes to answer the questions.

In order to respond via the internet, you should use the link in an email or in a text message sent to you the start of each month. You can choose whether you want to answer in Norwegian, English or Polish.

Some participants have the possibility to answer by telephone. If you are in this group of participants we will call you.

Why should I take part?

We cannot contact everyone who rents their home, so have therefore drawn a sample to represent the whole of the Norwegian rental market. In order to obtain an accurate picture of changes in rental prices in the CPI, it is crucial that as many of the households we contact take part.

We will protect your privacy

All Statistics Norway employees are subject to the duty of confidentiality, and we will never disclose details of individual responses. The survey is conducted in accordance with the Statistics Act and the Personal Data Act, and Statistics Norway has appointed its own data protection officer, who is approved by the Norwegian Data Protection Authority. Participation is voluntary and you can withdraw from the survey at any time and ask to have your details deleted. Within two years of the data being collected, all characteristics that can identify individuals will be removed from the data material.
