  • About the survey

From August 2019 to March 2020 Statistics Norway (SSB) conducts the survey on living conditions and work environment. About 20 500 people between the ages of 17 and 67 have been randomly sampled from the National Registry. This survey is a panel survey, where we contact the same people several times.

How do you answer?

You will receive an e-mail and a SMS from us if you are selected to participate in the survey.

One of our interviewers will call you soon to conduct a telephone interview. The survey can only be carried out by telephone. The interview lasts for approx. 30 minutes, but the length will vary from person to person. For people who are not working, the interview takes only five minutes. The interview can be conducted both in Norwegian or English.

Feel free to contact us by phone or e-mail if you have any questions about the survey or wish to make an appointment for an interview.

If you have not yet been contacted by one of our interviewers, it might be because we have been unable to find your phone number. In that case, please contact us to give us your contact details.

You can call us at 62 88 56 08 or send an e-mail to svar@ssb.no

What information do we need?

The survey has questions about the following topics:

  • status on work and employment
  • conditions of employment
  • physical and mental health
  • physical work environment
  • opportunities for development at work
  • use of new technology at work
  • reorganization and downsizing

Your answers are valuable

The survey is important for mapping the working conditions in Norway, and for being able to compare different groups in the society and follow the development over time.

We are not able to interview everyone living in Norway. Hence, we have randomly selected a group of people that represents the population. Participation in this survey is voluntary, but we cannot replace you with someone else. In order to get a correct picture of working conditions in Norway, it is important that as many as possible participate. For example, if many of the younger people do not respond, we will receive less secure information about how young people's working conditions are. It is therefore important that people in all life situations respond.

Your information is protected by the General Data Protection Regulation

  • Everyone working in Statistics Norway will treat your information confidentially.
  • You can tell Statistics Norway to delete your answers at any time.
  • The survey is carried out in accordance with the Statistics Act and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). If you have further questions about GDPR, you can visit our site www.ssb.no/en/omssb/personvern, or send us an e-mail at personvernombud@ssb.no
  • All data will be anonymized within four years after the last interview is conducted.

To make the survey shorter, we will collect information about you and your household from registers that SSB has access to. In addition to information from the National Registry, we collect information about education from school owners and the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund, information about income, wealth, medical absence, social securities and benefits from the Norwegian Tax Administration and NAV. Within one year after the final interview, your name will be deleted from the data material, and the national identity number will be replaced by a code that will later make it possible to see the answers in connection with information from the register. Within four years after the final interview, the data will be anonymized.
